Data Governance Specialist - Camrose/Central Alberta
The Data Governance Specialist (Contract) is responsible for executing Vision Credit Union’s enterprise Data Governance and Records Management roadmap. This role will focus on implementing sustainable governance practices, improving data quality, supporting regulatory compliance, and establishing comprehensive records management and automated retention processes across the organization.
This individual will work across all business units and information repositories to ensure data and records are appropriately classified, governed, retained, secured, and disposed of in accordance with business, legal, regulatory, and operational requirements. All organizational data and records, regardless of location, system, or format, fall within the scope of this role.
This is a full-time, 12-month contract opportunity with flexible work options. The successful candidate may work from our Camrose or Wainwright locations, remotely, or through a hybrid work arrangement.

The Person:
· Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Management, Information Systems, Business Analytics or a related discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience.
· Minimum three years of experience in records management, information governance, data governance, SharePoint administration, or a related discipline.
· Strong knowledge of records lifecycle management principles, including retention, classification, disposition, and legal hold processes.
· Demonstrated experience implementing records retention and information governance practices preferably within Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online environments.
Compensation:
· Salary range $80,000 to $98,000/annually.

Position Title: Data Governance Specialist (Contract)
Reports To: Chief Experience Officer
Summary
The Data Governance Specialist (Contract) is responsible for executing Vision Credit Union’s enterprise Data Governance and Records Management roadmap. This role will focus on implementing sustainable governance practices, improving data quality, supporting regulatory compliance, and establishing comprehensive records management and automated retention processes across the organization.
This individual will work across all business units and information repositories to ensure data and records are appropriately classified, governed, retained, secured, and disposed of in accordance with business, legal, regulatory, and operational requirements. All organizational data and records, regardless of location, system, or format, fall within the scope of this role.
The Data Governance Specialist will play a key role in supporting the implementation of information governance standards, SharePoint Online administration and optimization, metadata and classification frameworks, retention schedules, records lifecycle management, and governance reporting. This role works closely with Information Technology, Risk & Compliance, Privacy, Cybersecurity, business leaders, Data Owners, and Data Stewards to ensure consistent governance practices throughout the organization.
This person will contribute to governance policies, standards, procedures, training materials, and implementation activities while supporting Vision Credit Union's broader digital transformation and information management objectives. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
· Execute Vision Credit Union’s Data Governance and Records Management roadmap across the organization.
· Support the implementation of enterprise data governance policies, standards, procedures, and frameworks.
· Develop and implement records management practices, including classification, retention, disposition, legal hold, and lifecycle management processes.
· Configure, maintain, and optimize SharePoint Online capabilities to support document management, records management, metadata, retention, and governance requirements.
· Implement automated records retention and disposition solutions within Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, and other organizational repositories.
· Conduct inventories and assessments of data and records repositories to identify governance gaps, risks, redundancies, and improvement opportunities.
· Develop and maintain data classification, metadata, taxonomy, and information architecture standards.
· Partner with business areas to identify, classify, organize, and govern information assets.
· Support Data Owners and Data Stewards in carrying out governance responsibilities.
· Monitor data quality issues and assist in the development of remediation and improvement activities.
· Develop governance dashboards, reporting, and metrics to measure compliance, data quality, records management effectiveness, and roadmap progress.
· Coordinate governance-related activities, projects, action items, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Work closely with Information Technology, Privacy, Risk & Compliance, Security, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment of governance practices.
· Support audits, reviews, information requests, legal holds, and regulatory examinations related to data and records management.
· Provide guidance and support to staff regarding records retention, SharePoint usage, document management, classification, and governance best practices.
· Develop and deliver governance training, user guides, procedures, communications, and awareness materials.
· Research and recommend improvements to governance processes, technologies, and information management practices.
· Assist with the development and maintenance of governance-related documentation and standards.
· Stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, regulatory requirements, and best practices related to data governance, records management, and information governance.
· Act as an advocate for effective data governance and records management throughout the organization.

Requirements
· High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.

· Demonstrated experience implementing records retention and information governance practices preferably within Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online environments.
· Proficient with Microsoft 365 applications, including SharePoint Online, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Experience with Microsoft Purview, records management, retention policies, and information protection tools would be considered an asset.
· Strong working knowledge of SharePoint Online administration, document libraries, metadata, content types, permissions, retention labels, retention policies, and document management capabilities.
· Understanding of data governance concepts, including data ownership, stewardship, quality, classification, and governance frameworks.
· Ability to read and interpret policies, legislation, regulations, contracts, and governance-related documentation.
· Knowledge of relevant privacy, regulatory, compliance, and information management requirements.
· Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
· Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiencies.
· Ability to conduct research and analysis related to governance practices, technologies, and organizational requirements.
· Ability to explain technical concepts and governance requirements to non-technical audiences.
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
· Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training and associated documentation.
· Self-starter who is highly motivated to drive implementation and achieve results.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Experience delivering training, coaching, or mentoring others considered an asset.
· Banking or credit union experience considered an asset but not required.
